Kailua Service Care Event
Twice a year the Rotary Club of Kaneohe and Windward Oahu Sunrise support the Kailua Service Care Event. This event provides services for houseless individuals. Volunteers provide assistance with housing applications, employment support, veteran services, health care and insurance applications, legal aid, and assistance with IDs and vital documents. Additionally, those that attend are offered a meal, hygiene items, a shower, hair cuts, clothing, and free medical exams.  Please join us to support this meaningful and important event for our windward community.
 
 
Community Beautification Initiatives

Our Projects Committee has identified several specific sites throughout the Windward area and beaches to be revitalized and cared for. We also partner with other Windward area Rotary Clubs and 808 CleanUps to select a site, and pool our efforts to clean and improve the overall appearance of the site. 

The Projects Committee will provide plans, equipment, and enthusiastic, experienced leaders for each project. We will utilize everything from seeds, paint, and good old fashioned elbow grease to develop and maintain sites the community will love again.
 
In addition to beach and park cleanup efforts, we also adopt and revitalize local schools and public spaces. The members of Windward Sunrise have a heart for helping create beautiful spaces for public use. We are promoting healthy environments for our community, as well as happy places for our children to learn and grow.

The coordination of the projects with our partnerships brings more assistance to those in need, maximizing the impact of limited and specialized resources. Plus, it's fun with more people to swing a hammer. We are always happy to have more helping hands. SYMBOL OF FREEDOM FLAG PROGRAM

For five flag days each year (Veterans Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day), flags with flagpoles will be placed in subscribers yards throughout Kailua's Olomana Community.
 
In 2018, our club was able to donate $2,300 to the Boy Scouts Troop #311 for enrichment activities!
 
Our club maintains the community subscribers, flags, and flag poles so that the Boy Scouts properly raise and lower the flags on the five days.

Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation (HRYF), founded in 1976 by Maurice J. "Sully" Sullivan, was created to help Hawaii's high school graduates realize their potential.

Sullivan had a strong desire to serve the community and held the position of Rotary district governor in Hawaii during the 1976-77 year.

He felt that an organization like HRYF could help teach young people about America's free enterprise system and fill a need in the community.

Since its incorporation, through March 18, 2018, HRYF has awarded 1,750 scholarships with a total value of $6,488,313. For 2018, 24 neighbor island students from public and private schools were chosen as recipients, as well as another 24 from the island of Oahu. The total awarded amount for the year was $250,000.

HRYF scholarships are open to all Hawaii high school seniors who will be attending an accredited four-year college locally or on the Mainland United States, with each awarded scholarship being $5,000.

Every year, two outstanding student applicants are picked by HRYF to receive "in memorial" scholarships in the amount of $10,000 instead of the $5,000 HRYF scholarship.

 

COMMUNITY OUTREACH & FUNDRAISING

There's no denying there is food, housing, and financial insecurity within our Windward community. We are well aware of the problem, and position ourselves to take part in community school supply donations, Meals on Wheels, library book sharing, and other community outreach.
 
We have partnered with the Windward YMCA and several local houseless service foundations to provide resources to our houseless neighbors. Whether it's a hot meal, a sanitary shower, laundry services, counseling, or medical care, Windward Sunrise Rotarians are out in the community acting to alleviate some of the suffering and helping to maintain dignity for our houseless Windward neighbors.
 
The members of the Windward Sunrise Rotary Club are part of a global network of volunteers and philanthropists committed to finding solutions to the world’s most serious challenges. Rotary International gets our club members where they are needed most - on the ground in our community, facing these problems head on. Windward Sunrise Rotary is a conduit to getting you linked with the volunteer projects you care most about.
