Who, what, when, where, and why of Rotary Foundation - Rotary Foundation is all about Doing Good Around the World! Don't Delay- Make it an end of year, tax deductible donation!
Who - You, Your Club, Your District, Rotary International! The Foundation was created in 1917 by Rotary International’s sixth president, Arch C. Klumph, as an endowment fund for Rotary “to do good in the world.” It has grown from an initial contribution of US$26.50 to more than US$73 million contributed in 2000-01. Its event-filled history is a story of Rotarians learning the value of service to humanity. You can give online or to the club treasurer. If funds are marked share, then in 3 years WE the club get to see a portion of that contribution again in 3 years to use to give back to our LOCAL community. So the money does good not once, but MULTIPLE times over. That's better than left over steak from Ruth Chris'!
What - Recently awarded the coveted 4-star rating from charitynavigator.com, the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is a not-for-profit corporation that promotes world understanding through international humanitarian service programs and educational and cultural exchanges. It is supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and others who share its vision of a better world. At the 1917 convention, outgoing RI President Arch C. Klumph proposed to set up an endowment “for the purpose of doing good in the world.” In 1928, it was renamed The Rotary Foundation, and it became a distinct entity within Rotary International. In 1929, the Foundation made its first gift of $500 to the International Society for Crippled Children. The organization, created by Rotarian Edgar F. “Daddy” Allen, later grew into Easter Seals. When Rotary founder Paul Harris died in 1947, contributions began pouring in to Rotary International, and the Paul Harris Memorial Fund was created to build the Foundation. (From Rotary.org)
When - You can give anytime, online or at a meeting (I like online because I can do this with my credit card and get POINTS for bonuses through my credit card program!).
Where and How - Wait...Online or at a meeting! Really there are a number of ways and means to give. Give direct with smaller recurring gifts, donor advised funds, personal property(yes, the diamond that your ex-man gave you), real estate (what about that vacant ocean front lot you have sitting!), employee matching gift (check to see if your employer matches giving), you can even get a Rotary credit card and give every time you buy!
